About The Recycling Box
The Recycling Box comes to you from the garage of two very different eco conscious individuals.
By different I mean that one of us has 2 kids, lives in a house in the suburbs and has the above garage, whereas the other lives in a tiny flat with a goldfish!
From our own frustrating experience we realized that there was a need for a recycling bin that made it easier for people like us who want to recycle…to recycle.
We wanted to make a recycling bin out of 100% recycled material, to increase the demand for recycled products and to show people what can be done with recycled items.
We set about designing a recycling bin that was cost-, space- and eco-efficient, aesthetically pleasing and practical, that could be used in any household, even a tiny flat! We wanted to encourage separation at source, reduce the usage of plastic bin liners and ensure that it was easy to transport recyclables to drop off centres.
Rather than reducing employment opportunities for South Africans, a priority of ours in this project is to create employment opportunities through the production of the boxes and to increase the collections of recycled products from drop off centres.
Making the Recycling Box was only the first part of the journey, as we quickly realized that finding a reliable drop off centre for recyclables is not that easy. Some we visited don’t take all recyclables, some were overflowing and dirty, some no longer exist.
We set about founding a Recycling Collectors Association to provide people with reliable information about where they can drop off their recycling and to develop a network of dependable recycling collection agents.
This project is about doing something - something together, something that makes a difference.
